Every couple dreams of pulling off the “wedding of the century” (especially in this post-covid world). But, an epic wedding takes a fair amount of hard work. There are months of planning and countless stressful nights to create a day of memories that will last a lifetime. Are you making the right choices to ensure your wedding ceremony and reception stand out from the crowd? Or are you quietly fitting in with the rest of the wedding pack?
Yes I know, to have the “wedding of the century” sounds expensive, scary and maybe even something out of your comfort zone to plan or even where to begin with ideas… but that’s ok and the good news is you don’t have to feel any of those feelings. You should feel excited, proud and ready for your actual wedding to be the “wedding of the century.”
No couple should ever have to worry about whether or not their wedding is unapologetically them or stress out that the day goes off without a hitch. They also shouldn’t be anxious about keeping their guests occupied with “wow” moments.
You have a wedding planner for just that reason!
Ok so you are probably thinking, what can this wedding planner do for us that we can’t do ourselves, well let me give you details of what a wedding planner can do for you (and this is just some of the things).
Here are just a few ways that you can start planning “outside the box” and add a bit of surprise and delight into your wedding day.
They say first impressions are everything, so why not make your wedding stand out right from the get-go?
Grand entrances can be an impressive experience for both the couple and their wedding guests. Say you want to entice your guests as they enter the venue space. You can opt to entertain them with live musicians or other performers lining the walkways to their designated tables or seating areas. The newlyweds’ dramatic introduction can happen at either the ceremony or the reception (or both if you’re feeling really fancy).
Another way to make a memorable entrance is by going over-the-top to introduce the happy couple and their wedding party. Try and recreate elements of your love story. Think of creative and unique ways to highlight how you met, your favorite activities to do together, or anything in-between.
My favourite way to kick off the reception is to have your guests greeted by singers and live band singing the couples all-time favourite songs from when they first met to the present moment as you are led to your designated table, chair pulled out by suited waiting staff and a glass of your preferred drink served to you at your table. You all stand as the couple make their entrance with soft music playing in the background from the live band and the walkway is all there’s (maybe even add in singers walking down before them) surrounded by their family and friends. (I like that there is a traditional sense here but also some uniqueness with it too).
No matter your budget, you can easily elevate the reception space with luxurious decor. Your design elements can be something as simple as throw pillows or fabric-rich tablescapes to more off-the-wall and adventurous endeavors such as hanging installations or over-the-top light shows with accompanying music. These lush elements can help set the mood for the reception and put guests in the right vibe and headspace for the event.
Storytelling is a great way to bring your wedding to life. Every couple has a unique journey, whether it’s your family history or your extraordinary love story. Either of these can easily be divided up into stations.
If you would like to incorporate your love story into stations or scenes and are struggling to think of how to do this, think right at the start of the wedding, so at the church/civil ceremony right to the end of the day. Maybe you could choose the style of flowers for your ceremony of when the first time your fiancée bought you flowers, add in both of your favourite colours (if they are within your colour theme,) why not present your guests with a view of a beautiful photo of the two of you when they arrive at the reception, for table numbers have table names of all the countries you have visited together and you could even add in a photo of the both of you in that country. There are endless amounts of ideas on how you can really tell your love story.
With your wedding just a few short months away, don’t hesitate to reach out to your planner and start a conversation that can lead to the “wow factor” your wedding deserves.
